Landslide-Smashing PumpkinsI’ve loved the Smashing Pumpkins since I was about ten or eleven years old. I spent years and years collecting obscure bootlegs and live recordings, interviews and articles and pictures up until just after they broke up. I was lucky enough to see them on their final tour, on Halloween in Manchester and it was perfect.
I still love the Pumpkins as they were (not the tribute band that Billy and Jimmy formed a couple of years ago) but I tend to forget just how much until I hear one of their songs in passing on a tv show or film or the radio.
I remember when I first heard this song. A few years later, my boyfriend at the time was all about punk and although he hated the band, he bought me a copy of Pisces Iscariot and I played the whole thing while reading the liner notes. Some tracks are haunting, like this one. It’s beautiful, and sounds glorious when you listen to it while rain is tapping at your window.
And what do you know, I just found this and it started to rain.
Bliss.
love this version.
